The Castles, Mottes and Hillforts of north Wales

North Wales is rich in fortifications from the early hillforts along the Clwydian range, the Mottes of the Normans and the Princes of Gwynedd, to the massive castles of Edward the First. Many of these are well known tourist attractions, others are relatively unknown and almost inaccessible.

Sadly the fortifications raised by Henry the Third have all been destroyed with little left to see, however there is still much to explore other than the larger castles.
